The short answer
To track Google Ads conversions on Shopify, connect the Google and YouTube app (or Google Analytics 4) so purchases fire back to Google Ads with the real order value. The key is tracking one clean purchase event per order with dynamic revenue, so your ROAS reflects actual sales. Double-counting or a static value is what makes tracking lie.
Pick one tracking path, not three
You can connect Google Ads to Shopify through the official Google and YouTube channel app, or through Google Analytics 4 linked to Google Ads. Both work. The mistake is running several at once and counting the same sale twice.
Choose one clean path. If you already use GA4 for everything, import its purchase conversion into Google Ads. If not, the Google and YouTube app is the simplest reliable route.
Track real revenue, not a flat number
Your purchase conversion must send the actual order value, not a fixed number. If every sale reports as '1' or a guessed average, your ROAS is fiction and you will scale the wrong products.
Make sure the conversion passes dynamic value and currency from the order. Then Google optimises toward real money, which is the whole point.
Verify before you trust it
After setup, place a real test order and check that one conversion shows up in Google Ads with the correct value a few hours later. One order should equal one conversion, no more.
