Are Google Ads Still Worth It in 2026?

The short answer
Yes, Google Ads are still worth it in 2026 for stores whose margin can carry the click price. They show your products to people searching for them right now. They are not worth it if each sale leaves too little, or your sales tracking is broken. At ZenoX we run them for 400+ ecom stores and check that math first.
The Sum That Decides It
Take your order value, times your margin, times your conversion rate. That is the most one click can cost before the ads eat all you made on the sale. A €60 order at a 40% margin and a 2% conversion rate gives €0.48.
That sum leaves out payment fees and returns, so your real limit sits lower. If your clicks cost less than your limit, the ads can pay. If they cost more, no ad setting fixes it. Our Google Ads cost guide has a calculator for your own numbers.
When Google Ads Are Not Worth It
Three cases. Your margin is so thin that your break-even click is a few cents. No product of yours has buyers searching for it. Or your tracking is broken, so you cannot tell which clicks made sales. Fix those first.
A tiny budget can also make it pointless. $10 a day is about $304 a month (Google's 30.4 days, checked 5 November 2026). At a $5.42 click (WordStream's US search median, more below) that buys about 56 clicks. At a 2% conversion rate, that is about 1 sale. One sale a month teaches you very little. This is rough math, not a forecast.
What Changed by 2026
Clicks cost more. WordStream's 2026 search ads report puts the median click at $5.42, and its 2016 figure was $2.32. The report covers 13,474 US search campaigns across 23 industries, from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, in USD. It does not cover Shopping or Performance Max, and we read it on 5 November 2026. Your clicks may cost a lot less or a lot more.
Google's campaign list is moving too. Google says Display campaigns are moving to Demand Gen. It gives no date yet for the day new Display campaigns stop, checked 5 November 2026. So do not plan a long future on Display.
