What should a Google Ads agency actually do for a Shopify store?

The short answer

A Google Ads agency running a Shopify store should own the whole engine: clean and optimize the product feed, verify conversion tracking against real Shopify orders, build the campaigns, read the search terms report twice a week, and watch Merchant Center daily. If it only touches bids, it is not doing the job. That is the weekly routine ZenoX runs on 200+ ecom brands.

The first four days set up everything after

A proper start is concrete. Access comes first, and none of it needs your passwords: a Shopify collaborator code, an MCC link request for Google Ads, and an admin invite or CSS switch for Merchant Center. Then the agency audits or builds the product feed, installs and verifies tracking, checks Merchant Center for flags, and builds the campaigns.

Most accounts should be live and collecting data within the first four days. If setup drags for weeks with no clear blocker, that is your first data point about how the account will be run.

The weekly routine you should expect

Ongoing management has a visible shape. Every day: Merchant Center checked for disapproved or flagged products, so nothing sits blocked unseen. Every week: week-over-week performance review across the account, bid and budget adjustments, the search terms report read twice and irrelevant queries added as negatives, and product-level performance reviewed so budget flows to what sells.

You should also hear about it. A weekly update with what happened, why, and what happens next is the floor, not a premium tier. When results dip, the update should bring a reason and a next step, not just a number.

The work that actually moves the number

On a Shopify store, the biggest levers are not bids. Around 80 percent of Shopping results come from the feed, so title rewrites, correct categories, and clean attributes are where the money is. Google already automated the bidding. It did not automate the inputs.

Tracking is the other one. Browser pixels lose 30 to 40 percent of conversions to iOS privacy rules and ad blockers, so server-side tracking is core work, not an upsell. An agency that never mentions your feed or your tracking in the first month is managing the one part of the account that least needs a human.
