How much does it cost to bid on keywords in Google Ads?
The short answer
It costs nothing to bid on keywords in Google Ads; you only pay when someone clicks your ad. The price per click comes from a live auction, so it moves with your niche, country, and ad quality, and there is no honest fixed number. Control cost through your daily budget instead. ZenoX tells ecom stores to start at 30 to 50 euros a day.
You do not buy keywords, you enter auctions
There is no price list for keywords and no charge for adding them. Google runs an auction every time someone searches, and you pay only when your ad is shown and clicked. What you pay is set by who else is bidding on that search at that moment, in that country, against your ad quality.
That is why nobody can honestly quote you a fixed cost per keyword. The same keyword costs different amounts in different countries, in different niches, and even for two stores selling the same product, because the store with the better ad earns cheaper clicks.
What moves your click price
Competition sets the floor: ten well-funded advertisers on the same search makes that auction expensive, and no trick changes it. Quality moves you within that market. Google rewards ads that earn clicks, so relevance and click-through rate buy you cheaper access to the same auction.
Account age matters too. New accounts pay more per click at the start because the algorithm does not yet know which clicks convert, so it bids across a wide range. As conversion data builds, Smart Bidding stops paying for clicks that never convert and your average settles, often lower.
The number you actually control
Stop trying to price individual keywords and set the budget instead. Your daily budget caps what the whole system can spend, which makes it the real cost control. For an ecom store, we launch at 30 to 50 euros a day, because below roughly that level the account cannot buy enough data to learn and the results stay noise.
Run it for a few weeks at a real budget and you will have your actual click costs for your actual products, which beats any benchmark on the internet. If you sell physical products, note that Shopping ads price differently from keyword Search ads, and there is a separate answer on this site covering what Shopping clicks really cost.
