Is Google Ads Free?

The short answer
No, Google Ads is not free, because you pay Google for the ads you run. With cost-per-click bidding, you pay when someone clicks. You set the budget and can change it at any time. Google's Skillshop training costs nothing, checked 5 November 2026. At ZenoX we tell beginners to plan for real ad spend, the one cost you cannot skip.
What You Pay For
With cost-per-click bidding, you pay only when someone clicks your ad and lands on your site. Not every campaign works that way. Display can bill per 1,000 viewable views (vCPM).
If you set a max bid, you are often charged less. Google says you pay what is needed to clear the Ad Rank thresholds and beat the ad below you. When the gap to that ad grows, you may pay more per click. All of this was checked on Google's help pages on 5 November 2026.
How Much Google Can Charge You
Your budget is an average per day, set per campaign. For most campaigns, one day can reach two times that average, and a month is capped at 30.4 times it. 30.4 is the average number of days in a month.
So $10 a day can reach $20 on one day, and the month stays capped at $304. If costs run past that, you still pay the limit. Google's own example is $310 of costs on a $304 limit. Checked 5 November 2026.
What Costs Nothing
Google's own words: "Skillshop is available at no cost." That covers its Google Ads training and exams. Our four-hour dropshipping build is free to watch on YouTube too. That video is a dropshipping build, not a lesson from our Google Ads eCom Lab.
A new-advertiser offer is not free ads. Google's offer comes with a minimum spend, so you pay first. Amounts change, so read the terms of the offer you get.
