What separates a genuinely useful Google Ads community from one that's just selling a course?
The short answer
Look at who answers and what happens when you say no. A real community has operators posting live account details for free, with no upsell waiting at the end. A funnel gives you a taste, then a call. Our Google Ads eCom Lab has no paid tier at all, though ZenoX is an agency and a few members do later hire us.
Tell one: who answers the hard questions
In a real room, the person answering runs accounts this week and shows you the screen. In a funnel, the answers come from a moderator whose job is to move you to a call, and the specific stuff is always behind the next step.
Ask something genuinely hard, like why a Performance Max campaign stalled at low spend. A real room argues about it. A funnel books you in.
Tell two: what happens when you say no
Say you are not buying anything and watch what changes. If the help keeps coming, it is a community. If you go quiet in the DMs and the emails start, it was a list.
The cleanest version of this test is whether a paid tier exists at all. If there is nothing to buy inside the room, there is nothing for the room to funnel you toward.
Tell three: is the curriculum from real spend
Course funnels teach one store's story, usually the founder's, usually from two years ago. A useful room teaches patterns that show up across many accounts, and it tells you the sample size.
Ours is built on ZenoX running Google Ads for 200-plus ecom brands with 200 million euros plus in tracked sales. You do not have to take that on faith. Ask in the chat and someone will show you the account view.
Being straight about our own motive
Every free room has a motive. Ours is that ZenoX is a Google Ads agency, the eCom Lab is free forever with no paid tier, and a small number of the 900-plus members eventually decide they would rather hand the account to us.
That is not a funnel, but it is not charity either. Judge it on whether the free stuff is actually the real system. It is: same playbook we run on client accounts, not a stripped-down teaser.
