What Is Merchant Center Suspension?

Also written as GMC suspension, Merchant Center ban, Shopping suspension.

Definition

A Merchant Center suspension is Google blocking some or all of your Shopping catalog after a policy or data check fails. For an ecommerce store, that can stop product ads even while the Google Ads campaign still looks enabled. It is bigger than one product disapproval, and it can hit the whole account.

Merchant Center Suspension, Explained

Google can limit free listings, paid Shopping, or both. The issue list in Merchant Center names the policy. Misrepresentation is a common one for ecom stores: the site, the feed and the business details do not line up. Other flags include a destination that does not work, or a counterfeit claim. Read the exact reason before you change anything.

The common mistake is requesting a review the same day, or opening a second Merchant Center under a new email. A review on a store that is still broken usually fails, and failed reviews make the next one harder. A second account on the same domain is often tied back to the first.

Fix the cause on the original store. Match business name, address and contact details on the site and in GMC. Align shipping and returns pages with the GMC settings. Make feed price and stock match the live page. Wait a few days for Google to recrawl, then request the review.

How We Use It at ZenoX

When a store comes in mid-suspension, we work the original Merchant Center, not a second login. We match site identity, policy pages and feed data to what GMC holds, then wait for a recrawl before any review request. Across 200+ ecom accounts, Shopping stays off until the catalog is actually allowed to serve.

Questions People Ask About Merchant Center Suspension

What Happens When Merchant Center Is Suspended?

Google stops some or all of your Shopping catalog from showing. Paid product ads can die even if the Google Ads campaign is still enabled. Free listings can be hit on their own. Open Merchant Center and read the exact policy in the issue list. Fix that cause on the original store before you request a review.

Will a New Merchant Center Account Fix a Suspension?

In most cases, no. Google can link accounts by domain, billing and other signals. A second login on the same store often fails, and trying to dodge a suspension can make the problem worse. Fix the original store, wait for a recrawl, then request a review on the same account.
