Does Google Ads actually work for dropshipping?
The short answer
Yes, Google Ads works for dropshipping, and often better than Facebook for the right store. It catches people already searching for a product, so intent is high. But it only works if your margins can cover the ad cost and your store looks trustworthy. Thin margins or a sketchy-looking store is where dropshippers lose money, not Google itself.
Why Google Ads fits dropshipping
Facebook interrupts people who were not shopping. Google catches people who are already searching for what you sell. That intent is the whole edge. Someone typing 'orthopedic dog bed' is closer to buying than someone scrolling a feed.
For a store with a clear product and a decent site, that intent turns into sales faster and steadier than most people expect. We have taken dropshipping stores from zero to real monthly revenue on Google alone.
When it does not work
It fails when the math cannot work. Say a product costs you 8 euros and sells for 20. That leaves 12 euros of gross margin. If it then costs 15 euros in ads to make that sale, you lose 3 euros every time, no matter how good the ads are. The rule is simple: your cost per sale has to stay under your gross margin. Google Ads exposes thin margins fast.
It also fails when the store looks untrustworthy - no reviews, stock photos, slow checkout, no returns policy. Google's buyers compare you to real brands in the same search. If you look risky, they bounce, and your costs climb.
How to run it profitably
Start with Google Shopping and Performance Max, since that is where buying searches land. Pick products with real room in the margin - aim for at least a 3x markup so there is enough gross margin left to cover the cost per sale and still bank a profit.
Fix the store before you scale spend: real photos, reviews, fast mobile checkout, clear shipping. Then feed Google clean product titles and let it find the winners. Scale the products that stay profitable, cut the ones that do not.
