Should a dropshipper start with Google Ads or TikTok ads?
The short answer
Start with the channel that matches your product. If people already search for it, start on Google Ads, because search intent converts steadier and does not need fresh creative every week. If the product only sells once someone sees it in action, TikTok's discovery feed wins the first sale. ZenoX runs the Google side for 200+ ecom brands, so we know which products search carries.
What each channel is actually good at
They do opposite jobs. Google Ads catches demand: someone types 'ceramic table lamp', your Shopping ad shows the lamp with a price, and you meet a buyer at the exact moment they want to buy. TikTok creates demand: someone who has never heard of your product watches it do something surprising for eight seconds and now wants one.
Neither is 'better'. A lamp does not need a video to make sense, so search carries it. A gadget nobody knows exists gets zero searches, so discovery carries it. The product decides, not the platform.
The five-minute test
Search your product on Google the way a stranger would describe it. If real searches and Shopping ads exist, demand is already there, and Google Ads lets you buy it directly. That is the steadier start: intent traffic converts more predictably, and a product feed does the selling without you producing content.
If the searches barely exist, do not force Google to do TikTok's job. Google Ads cannot make people want a product they have never heard of. Wow-factor products, visual tricks, and pure impulse buys earn their first sales where people discover things, not where they search for things.
The honest trade-offs of each
TikTok's strength comes with a treadmill: creative fatigues in days, so winning means constantly producing new videos, and results swing hard from week to week. When a video hits, it really hits. When the creative runs dry, so does the revenue. That volatility is the price of discovery.
Google's strength comes with a gate: Shopping requires a Merchant Center account, a clean feed, and a store that passes Google's honesty checks, and for dropshippers that bar is real work. It is also slower to show you a viral winner, because it can only catch searches that exist. In exchange, a product that works on search tends to keep working month after month without new creative.
Where we honestly stand
ZenoX only runs the Google side. We do not manage TikTok ads and we are not going to pretend both channels are our lane. What we can say from 200+ ecom brands is this: plenty of products that first popped on discovery platforms end up making their steady, boring, repeatable money on Google search and Shopping, because after the videos, people google the product.
So the real answer is often a sequence, not a choice: discovery proves a new product, search scales it. If you want help thinking through your product, the free Google Ads eCom Lab on Skool is full of dropshippers who have run both playbooks.
