Dropshipping Mentor: Free vs Paid, with Real 2026 Prices

Should you pay a dropshipping mentor? Prices we checked on 8 Oct 2026, from free groups to $999 a month, the FTC's red flags, and where our free group fits.

What Reddit Says About Dropshipping Mentors

The top organic Google result for "dropshipping mentor" on 8 October 2026 was not a mentor. It was a Reddit thread titled "Has anyone used a dropshipping mentor?". The person asking wanted one-to-one help. But every guru they spoke to "always has the same sales pitch intro call". One reply said that after you pay a guru, "thats it, they are out."

A newer r/dropshipping thread, "Why most dropshipping gurus make more money...", aims straight at people like us. Its advice: when the answer to a real question is "DM me" or "join my Skool, it's free", run. We run a free Skool group. So hold this page to that.

The best reply in that thread gave a test worth keeping: "Do they talk about profit, risk, compliance, failed tests and boring operational details?" Use it on every option below, ours too. (Both threads read on 8 October 2026.)

Mentor, Coach, Course or Community?

People mix these up, and the price gap between them is huge.

  • A course gives you lessons to follow at your own pace. Check whether the price also includes feedback on your store.
  • A community is a room of people doing the same thing. You post your problem and members answer. Sometimes the people running it answer too.
  • A mentor or coach is a person who looks at YOUR store and tells you what to change. That is the expensive part, because it costs their time.

Many paid offers mix all three. Before you pay, read the "what's inside" list and count the lines where a named person looks at your work. That is the mentor part. The rest is a course and a room.

Our eCom Lab also has a VIP tier: $199/month, with weekly calls. It is not on the public Skool plans page. That price is mine, confirmed on 8 October 2026. VIP is free for users of Scaley AI, our own AI media buyer tool.

For a wider view, GrowthMentor's cost guide puts business consultants at $150 to $500 an hour and mentorship platforms at $0 to $300 a session. That is general business help, not dropshipping.

The Paid Options, One by One

AutoDS Mentor. For stores already on AutoDS who want fast answers in chat. AutoDS says its mentors are pro dropshippers it picked, and when they are offline you leave a ticket. The help is one-to-one. The mentor add-on is $39.97 a month, and you also need an AutoDS plan. The cheapest monthly plan, Import, was $26.90 on 8 October 2026. Together that is $66.87 a month, before you pay for the store itself. The pricing page does not say which plans can add a mentor, so ask before you buy. Limit: you need AutoDS to use it.

UNLMTD. For stores on Google Ads that keep hitting Merchant Center problems. Merchant Center is Google's tool that holds your product list for Shopping ads. If it suspends your store, those ads stop. UNLMTD's page lists fix-it guides for suspensions, broken product links, missing barcodes and the "misrepresentation" flag Google puts on stores it does not trust. It also lists one-to-one reviews of how your store sells. Members' reviews name Maxim and Lars, and mention weekly coaching and Q&A calls. $239 a month. It is a smaller group: 71 members and 3 reviews. Ask how often someone will review your store and how long replies take. It is a direct rival to ours.

AB Inner Circle. For store owners on Google Ads who want help with the build, not just the ads. Its path covers a store guide, a Merchant Center checklist, payment and supplier contacts, direct access to their media buyer and weekly calls with Arthur and Bryan. $249 a month, and the page says your rate stays the same while you stay. Supplier and payment contacts are help ours does not give. The page leads with "217 members hit $1k/day in 90 days". We cannot check that number, and neither can you from the page. Ask how many members joined in the same 90 days.

Minea E-commerce Coaching. For beginners who want daily hand-holding and can afford it. The page promises "A one-to-one mentoring to support you every day", store reviews by "a branding expert", and weekly group lives. The price is $999 a month. Minea frames the program as 90 days. Three monthly payments come to $2,997 before you spend a cent on ads. That is our sum, not a number Minea shows. The headline promises a 100% refund if you do not reach $1,000 a day in 90 days. The same page lists when it "won't work", like "You don't apply the action plan designed for you". We could not find how many months you must stay or who qualifies for that refund. Minea's general terms of sale, in French, say paid services are not refundable once ordered, apart from rare cases in the first 24 hours. They do not mention the coaching. Get the coaching terms in writing before you pay.

When Free Is Enough

Free is enough while your questions are general. How do I set up Shopify? What is a product feed? Why did Merchant Center reject my store? Many people asked these questions before you, and the answers are already written.

Use this order:

  1. Watch one full free course end to end. Ours is four hours and builds a real Google Ads account from scratch. Or read the free written lessons.
  2. Launch a store. You learn more from one live store than from ten videos.
  3. Ask in a free room. Post your real numbers, not "how do I make money".
  4. Write down the one problem you cannot fix. That list is what you would pay a mentor for.

If step 4 is empty, you do not need a mentor yet. Keep building.

When Paying Makes Sense

Free is the default. Pay when three things are true.

  • You can name the problem. "Google suspended my Merchant Center and I don't know why" is a problem. "I want to scale" is a wish. It can be a problem before launch, too. A review of your store before you spend your first $500 on ads is a fair thing to buy.
  • Their experience matches it. A Meta ads guru is the wrong person for a Google Shopping problem. Ask what they run today, on which channel.
  • You can afford it. Pay only with money left over after product tests, ad spend and refunds. Then compare the full fee with what it should bring back. A $239 a month room has to earn you more than $239 a month in extra profit, or stop a mistake that costs more.

Then pay for the smallest thing that fixes it. One review call beats a 12-month contract. A monthly group you can cancel beats a big upfront program. You can always buy more help. Getting money back is much harder.

Before You Pay: Seven Questions

Ask these, and get the answers in writing.

  1. Who, by name, will look at my store? A team name is not a person.
  2. What do I get in writing? A list of fixes, a recorded review, notes after each call.
  3. Is the time mine or shared? One-to-one, or a group call with 50 people?
  4. What is the full cost? The trial, the monthly fee, the tools you must also buy, and how many months they expect you to stay.
  5. How do I cancel, and what are the refund terms? Read the conditions, not the headline.
  6. What should be different in 30 days? Name the result before you pay.
  7. When do I stop? Pick the date. If the result is not there, cancel.

Red Flags Before You Pay Any Dropshipping Mentor

Start with the US Federal Trade Commission. Its consumer alert "How to spot and avoid business coaching scams", posted 18 May 2026 and read on 8 October 2026, warns about these signs:

  1. Guaranteed income. In the FTC's words: "No one can guarantee you'll make lots of money with little to no risk."
  2. A "proven system to make money". The FTC says a pitch like that is "likely a scam".
  3. Pressure. "Scammers will pressure you to get involved now or 'risk losing out.'"
  4. Glowing success stories. They "could be fake or misleading, and positive online reviews may have come from made-up profiles."

Two lines from the pages above, read on 8 October 2026, sit right next to that list. Minea's coaching page says "The only E-commerce coaching that guarantees your success!" and calls its method "foolproof". That is close to the FTC's first two warning signs, in a sales headline. AB Inner Circle's page opens with "217 members hit $1k/day in 90 days" and "17/25 slots taken". That does not make either a scam. It means you ask for the proof behind the line before you pay.

Then add three from our side of the table:

  • They will not show a store or ad account they run today. Screenshots from 2021 do not count.
  • The refund terms are not in writing before you pay. A refund promise only matters if you can read the conditions.
  • The price only shows up on a call. Dropship Circle's mentor page, which ranked for "dropshipping mentor" on 8 October 2026, says "Apply for our mentorship program" and shows no price. A call like that is a sales call. Go in knowing your budget.

Where Google Ads Ecom Lab Fits (Ours, Disclosed)

Google Ads eCom Lab is our free Skool group. Judge it on what it is and is not.

What it is. A room for stores that run Google Ads: Shopping ads, Performance Max and Merchant Center. 1,600+ members (1,701 on 8 October 2026) and 5.0 from 15 reviews. The core is free. Premium is $44/month: our ads team answers within 24 hours on weekdays, plus our templates and the written steps we run the agency on. VIP is $199/month and includes weekly calls. It is built by the team that runs Google Ads for 300+ stores, with $200M+ in client revenue (our internal total, not audited).

What it is not. It is not a product research course. It does not pick your niche or your supplier. Minea's weekly lives cover product checks, and AB Inner Circle hands out supplier contacts. We do neither. It is not one-to-one mentoring on the free tier: members help each other, and staff jump in when we can. And it does not have the most members. Theo Clarke's free group has more than four times our members, and its page says "no experience needed". Ours is built for stores that are already live.

If you are at zero, start with Theo's room or a free course. If your store is live and Google Ads is the problem, try ours free. If the answers don't help, leave. It costs nothing.

Want someone to run the ads for you instead of teaching you? That is a different buy. Our Google Ads dropshipping agency takes stores spending at least EUR 10,000 a month on ads. Below that, the free room is the better place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I pay for a dropshipping mentor?

Not at the start, for most people. Free groups, free courses and your own first store teach the basics. Pay when you can name one problem and find someone who has fixed it before. That can be before launch too, like a review of your store before you spend on ads. Only pay with money you have left after product tests, ad spend and refunds. Then check the fee against what it should earn or save you. Buy the smallest thing you can cancel. We run a free group, so weigh our view.

How much does a dropshipping mentor cost?

For the options we checked on 8 October 2026, from free to $999 a month. AB Com on Skool was $1 one time. The AutoDS mentor add-on was $39.97 a month, on top of an AutoDS plan that started at $26.90 a month. UNLMTD was $239 a month, AB Inner Circle $249 a month, and Minea's coaching page said $999 a month. Dropship Circle showed no price: you apply first. GrowthMentor's cost guide puts consultants at $150 to $500 an hour. Our own eCom Lab is free, with Premium at $44 a month and VIP at $199 a month.

Is there a free dropshipping mentor?

Free one-to-one business mentoring exists. GrowthMentor's cost guide points to free SCORE mentors and local Chamber of Commerce sessions in the US. A free mentor who knows dropshipping is harder to find, and their time is limited. Most free dropshipping help is shared: Theo Clarke's Google Ads Dropshipping (Free) group on Skool had 7,963 members on 8 October 2026, r/dropshipping is free, and our Google Ads eCom Lab is free with 1,600+ members. You ask in public and members answer.

How do I spot a dropshipping guru scam?

Use the FTC's own list. Its consumer alert on business coaching scams, posted 18 May 2026 and read on 8 October 2026, warns about guaranteed income, a 'proven system to make money', pressure to buy now or 'risk losing out', and success stories that 'could be fake or misleading'. Add three of ours: the mentor will not show a store or ad account they run today, the refund terms are not written down before you pay, and the price only shows up on a call.

Is a dropshipping mentor worth it?

It can be, when your problem is specific, their experience matches it, and you can afford it. Paying $239 a month to learn what a free course covers is not worth it. Paying for one review from someone who has fixed your exact Merchant Center suspension many times often is. Do the sum first: the full fee should be smaller than the extra profit it brings or the loss it stops. If paying would eat your ad test budget, wait.
