7 free courses and 1 paid certificate. One of them is ours. Every price, length and certificate checked on its own page, 8 and 9 October 2026.
Best Free Ecommerce Courses in 2026: 8 Picks Checked Side by Side
Shopify Academy to start a store (until 29 Oct 2026), HubSpot for marketing, Skillshop for Google Shopping. 8 courses checked on price, hours and certificate.
We publish this page, and one of the eight courses below is ours: a free four-hour Google Ads course on YouTube. It sits last on the list, because it only teaches one part of running a store.
Checked 8 and 9 October 2026. I opened every course page and wrote down what it says: price, length, certificate, how long you keep access, and what it teaches.
"Ecommerce" is a wide word. One course teaches you to pick a product. Another teaches email. Another teaches Google Ads. So there is no single best course, only the best one for where you are right now.

How We Checked Them
On 8 October 2026 I pulled Google's US results for "ecommerce course" and "free ecommerce course". Then I opened the free courses that ranked, plus Google's free Shopping ads course, because this page is for people who sell online. Acadium ranked third and Simplilearn sixth for "ecommerce course". Shopify Academy ranked fourth and Google's certificate page sixth for "free ecommerce course". For each one I read its own page: the outline, the price, the FAQ and the access rules. On 9 October I checked again for closures and price changes.
I read outlines, not every lesson. So each fact here is what the course says about itself.
The top result for "ecommerce course" was Dokan's list of 10 courses. It covers a fair spread of topics. But its text gives no length for any of the 10 picks, and a price for only one (Omnisend Academy, which it calls free). So every pick here carries its price, length and certificate from its own page.
Three of the top results for "free ecommerce course" are shelves, not courses. Alison ranked first. Its page lists 57 free ecommerce courses. It also sells digital certificates, so check the price before you count on a free one. Coursera's course search ranked third and Udemy's free e-commerce page ranked fifth. All three are good places to browse. I did not rank them, because each one is a list of many courses by many teachers, and a list cannot be compared with one course.
Four things decided who made the list:
- It is free to learn. One paid pick stays in, clearly marked, because people search for it by name.
- It is about selling online. Not a general business degree.
- You can start today. No application, no waiting list.
- The page tells you what is inside. If I could not see the outline, it is not here.
The 8 Courses, One by One
Shopify Academy: First Day to First Sale
This is Shopify's own free course, for someone opening a first store. You follow a Shopify Expert as they take one product idea to market.
The outline runs over four weeks. Week 1 is the product: idea, competitor and customer research, branding. Week 2 is the website: sketching the page layout, copywriting and a Shopify tutorial. Week 3 is photos, manufacturing, shipping and pricing. Week 4 is marketing: SEO, digital ads, email and social media. A bonus section covers hiring and money basics. The page promises 5 video lessons and "dozens of expert produced templates".
Good for: your very first store. It follows one product from idea to brand, website, shipping and marketing, in that order, with dozens of templates along the way.
Weak spot: it is built around making your own product, with manufacturing and packaging lessons. If you plan to dropship, part of it will not apply. One lesson is "Sign up for a FREE trial of Shopify", so you are also being sold the platform. Fair enough, just know it.
The deadline: Shopify's help center says "On October 29, 2026, Shopify Academy will be sunset." The course page itself does not say so (both checked 9 October 2026). So if you want this one, start now. Reading this after 29 October? Take Acadium's free course instead.
HubSpot Academy: Ecommerce Marketing Course
HubSpot's free course is short and tidy: 5 lessons, 10 videos, 3 quizzes, 52 minutes in total. It is taught by Ethan Giffin, the founder of Groove Commerce, an ecommerce agency, and Anni Kim, a former HubSpot Academy teacher.
It teaches HubSpot's "inbound" way of marketing: draw people in with useful content, then turn them into buyers and keep them coming back. The longest lesson, at 21 minutes, builds your strategy.
Good for: a store that already sells and needs a marketing plan you can write in one evening.
Weak spot: one of the 5 lessons is about HubSpot's own Shopify app. App screens change, so if you connect the two, follow HubSpot's current Shopify setup guide (updated 22 June 2026). The lesson list also has nothing on paid ads. Content marketing is the focus.
Google Skillshop: AI-Powered Shopping Ads Certification
Skillshop is Google's own training site. The Shopping ads certification is the one built for stores. Its outline covers three things. First, Merchant Center, the Google account where your product list lives. Second, the product feed, which is that list of products, prices and photos sent to Google. Third, Performance Max for retail, the Google campaign type that shows your products on Search, Shopping, YouTube and more from one campaign. Google's own estimate is 1 hour 15 minutes, beginner level. You earn the certificate by passing the test at the end.
Google's Skillshop help page says most certifications cost nothing and the pass mark depends on the topic. If you fail, you can try again, though you may have to wait 24 hours. A certification is valid for one year.
Good for: any store that wants sales from Google Shopping. It is the only free course here with a Google certificate on Shopping.
Weak spot: it is Google teaching Google's product, the official way. It covers ads only, not the rest of the store. We compared it with six other Google Ads courses in our best Google Ads course roundup.
Acadium: E-Commerce Business Basics
Acadium's free course is for someone who has not picked a way to sell yet. It is 5 lessons, beginner-friendly. It covers market research, Shopify, Amazon, dropshipping and selling to other businesses, and it promises to help you check a product idea before you build.
Good for: a first look when you have not picked a model yet. You see Shopify, Amazon and dropshipping side by side. It is also the free pick for a first store once Shopify Academy closes.
Weak spot: the page gives no hours and names no certificate. It also does not say how long each lesson is or how much hands-on practice you get.
Great Learning: Introduction to E-Commerce
Great Learning's course shows 4.47 stars, 13.6K+ learners and beginner level. It covers business models, channels, campaign choices and how to measure them. Its FAQ says you keep lifetime access to the free content.
Good for: someone who wants the terms and the theory before they open a store.
Weak spot: the page does not agree with itself. The top says 2.25 learning hours, the FAQ says 1.5 hours. And the course is free, but the certificate is not: the FAQ says it needs "a non-refundable fee".
Simplilearn SkillUp: Free E-Commerce Course
Simplilearn's free course is for marketplace sellers. It is 2 hours of self-paced video in 4 lessons, with 90 days of access and a free certificate of completion.
The lessons are about listings: what an ecommerce listing is, how to start one, the listing process, then promotion and after-sales support.
Good for: sellers on marketplaces who want listing basics and a certificate for free.
Weak spot: the 90-day clock. And its FAQ points you to Simplilearn's paid programs as the next step.
Coursera: Google Digital Marketing and E-Commerce Certificate (Paid)
Not free, and we say so up front. It is here because people who search for a free ecommerce course land on Google's certificate page.
Google's certificate runs on Coursera. Coursera lists it as 8 courses (Google's own page says 7), about 6 months at 10 hours a week. It covers search, social and email marketing, Google Analytics and Google Ads, and one course has you build a mock store on Shopify. Google's FAQ puts the price at $49 a month in the US and Canada after a 7-day free trial, and says it may cost less in other countries. Coursera Plus, Coursera's subscription for many of its courses, also includes this certificate. On 9 October 2026 that page showed $35 a month or $239 a year. Its FAQ says some programs are left out, so look for the Coursera Plus badge before you pick a plan.
Good for: a career switch into ecommerce or marketing. Google's page says US graduates also get a job board through CareerCircle.
Weak spot: it is slow if all you want is sales from your own store next month. And it costs money every month you stay enrolled.
ZenoX: Free Four-Hour Google Ads Course (Ours)
I recorded this one myself, so weigh that.
It does one job: Google Ads for a Shopify store, built from zero, on screen. First the Google Ads, Tag Manager, Analytics and Merchant Center accounts. Then tracking, the product feed, a Performance Max campaign that runs on the product feed alone, and a small Search campaign for people who type your store's name. The last two hours cover budgets, the numbers to watch, scaling and the mistakes we see most.
4 hours 23 minutes, 47 chapters, free. 78,477 views on 8 October 2026. It comes from what we do every day: ZenoX runs Google Ads for 300+ stores.
Short on time? The chaptered transcript lets you jump to the part you need. There is also a shorter free Google Ads course for Shopify write-up.
Good for: a store that is live and wants its first sales from Google.
Weak spot: it is not an ecommerce course in the wide sense. No product research, no store design, no email. No certificate and no quizzes. It uses third-party Shopify apps for tracking and the feed, budgets are in euros, and it was uploaded in July 2025, so a menu or two has moved since.
Two Free Extras for Email and Social Ads
The eight above have no free course on email, or on Facebook and Instagram ads. Two free ones fill that gap. I did not rank them, for the same reason as Alison: each is a library of many videos, and neither page lists lengths.
Meta Blueprint is Meta's own free training for ads on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. It covers building campaigns, reaching people and measuring how your ads do. Meta also runs certification exams, with free courses, study guides and practice tests to prepare. Its certification page does not show the exam price, so check it before you book one (checked 9 October 2026). Good for a store that sells through Meta ads.
Omnisend Academy is a set of free video guides on email and SMS: collecting subscribers, building emails, automations and segments. Its main course is Email Marketing Fundamentals. Omnisend says the videos teach you to use Omnisend itself, so it fits best if you already use it. Dokan's list says you get certified, but Omnisend's own course list marks it free with no certificate. Do not count on one.
What Reddit Says About Ecommerce Courses
On 8 October 2026, Reddit ranked second on Google for both searches, and the threads are honest about courses.
In the r/ecommerce thread on "ecommerce course", the poster wants to learn while building a real store. After the replies, they write down their plan: "Start something. Get stuck. Revert to learning. Solve. Next." They add they will go back to Google's and Meta's own courses. Google's is Skillshop and Meta's is Blueprint, both above.
In the thread on free courses, the poster has about $500 to start. One reply says: "Be careful with courses and gurus." That person hired someone to set up the store and guide them to the first sale, then carried on alone. The poster answers that "all the gurus and courses online seem like scams."
That is a fair worry about paid gurus. It is not a reason to skip the free courses above. They cost nothing, and they come from Shopify, HubSpot and Google.
Free Course or Paid Help?
Start free. Pick one course from the first table and start this week. Follow its schedule. Do not stack five.
Then open the store and sell something. Your first real problem will be specific: the feed got rejected, the ads spend and nothing sells, the product page does not convert. No course was made for your exact store.
That is the moment a group beats a course. We run a free Skool group, Google Ads eCom Lab, with 1,600+ members. Store owners post their own account there and ask what is wrong. It is ours, so weigh that too. It only covers Google Ads, and free answers come from other members first. If you want rooms that cover all of ecommerce, read our list of the best free ecom communities.
Pay for help only once you know your question. Then you know what you are buying.
Who Made This Page
ZenoX Media wrote it. We are a Google Ads agency for ecom stores and we manage 300+ stores today. Our clients' Google Ads have brought in $200M+ in revenue (our own internal total, not audited).
One of the eight courses here is ours, and it is listed last.
The facts on every other course come from its own page on 8 or 9 October 2026. Prices and lengths change. Check the page before you sign up.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best free ecommerce course?
For a brand-new store, Shopify Academy's First Day to First Sale. It is free and walks you from product idea to branding, store build, shipping and marketing. Shopify says Shopify Academy closes on 29 October 2026, so after that take Acadium's free E-Commerce Business Basics instead. If you already sell, HubSpot Academy's Ecommerce Marketing course is free and takes 52 minutes. If you want sales from Google, take Skillshop's free AI-Powered Shopping ads Certification, about 1 hour 15 minutes. All three checked on their own pages on 8 October 2026, and the Shopify closure on 9 October 2026.
Is there a free ecommerce course with a certificate?
Yes. Simplilearn SkillUp's Free E-Commerce Course gives a free certificate of completion, with 90 days of access. Google Skillshop's AI-Powered Shopping ads Certification is free once you pass its test, and Google says it lasts one year. Great Learning's course is free to watch. Its FAQ says the certificate needs a non-refundable fee. Alison lists free ecommerce courses, but it also sells digital certificates, so check that price first. Google's Digital Marketing and E-commerce Certificate is a real career certificate, but it is paid. Google's FAQ puts it at $49 a month in the US and Canada after a 7-day free trial (checked 8 October 2026).
Is Shopify Academy free?
Yes. The First Day to First Sale page calls it a totally free ecommerce course. You register for free and get 5 video lessons plus templates. One lesson asks you to sign up for a free Shopify trial, so expect to be pointed to Shopify itself. One catch: Shopify's help center says Shopify Academy shuts down on 29 October 2026 (checked 9 October 2026), so the course is only there until then.
Is the Google ecommerce certificate free?
No. Google's own FAQ says it costs $49 a month in the US and Canada after a 7-day free trial, and may cost less in other countries. You pay through Coursera. Coursera Plus, Coursera's subscription for many of its courses, also includes this certificate. On 9 October 2026 its page showed $35 a month or $239 a year. Google puts the certificate at about 6 months at 10 hours a week. Google's free option for store owners is Skillshop, where the AI-Powered Shopping ads Certification costs nothing.
Are ecommerce courses worth it?
Free ones, yes, as a map. In the r/ecommerce thread that ranked second on Google for 'ecommerce course' on 8 October 2026, the poster lands on this plan: 'Start something. Get stuck. Revert to learning. Solve. Next.' That is the right order. Take one free course, open the store, and pay for help only once you know the exact question you are stuck on.
How long does it take to learn ecommerce?
The free courses here run from 52 minutes (HubSpot) to 2 hours (Simplilearn) to about four weeks of topics (Shopify Academy, until it closes on 29 October 2026). The paid Google certificate is about 6 months part time. Watching is the quick part. Your first products, ads and sales then teach you more than any lesson, so plan for months of practice on a live store.
