Free vs Paid Skool Community for Google Ads: Which Should You Join?
Published

Written by Christopher Krassnig, Founder & CEO of ZenoX Media. Answers every question here from the accounts ZenoX runs, not from theory.
The short answer
Join a free Skool community first, and pay only when you need a fast answer on your own store. Free Google Ads rooms already cover the basics. A paid tier should say who answers and how fast. Our Premium tier costs $44 a month and promises a media buyer reply within 24 hours on weekdays. We run the eCom Lab, so weigh that.
What Free Gets You and What You Pay For
Free and paid rooms mostly teach the same things. Campaign setup, Merchant Center, Performance Max, product feeds. What a paid tier really sells is a promise of someone's time.
A free room gives you other store owners, a question thread and a library. Someone usually answers. But nobody owes you an answer, and nobody promises how fast.
Paid buys that promise. Sometimes calls too. Only some paid tiers say anyone will look inside your own account, so check before you pay.
Our own room shows the split. Free members get the community, a weekly Google Ads question thread where staff jump in when we can, case studies and breakdown posts. They also get a free library of checklists, audits and starter SOPs, the step-by-step guides we work from. Premium at $44 a month adds direct answers from our media buyers inside 24 hours on weekdays. It also adds our templates, every SOP we run the agency on and a monthly playbook. VIP at $199 a month includes weekly calls.
What Google Ads Skool Rooms Cost Right Now
We read these from each group's own Skool page on 8 October 2026, unless a date says otherwise.
Free: Google Ads Dropshipping by Theo Clarke, 7,963 members. PPC Launchpad from the GrowMyAds team, 5,443 members, with a free 25-module Performance Max course. Rob Andolina's Google Ads Skool, 5,192 members. All three are bigger than ours.
Paid: PPC Copilot costs $120 a month and had 241 members. You get courses, team support and a weekly expert Q&A. AB Inner Circle costs $249 a month and had 391 members, rated 4.9 from 35 reviews. It is built for dropship stores and lists weekly calls with the founders. UNLMTD costs $239 a month and had 71 members on 9 October. It sells a dropshipping course from store to ads, plus 1-on-1 store audits.
Ours, the Google Ads eCom Lab: free to join, 1,600+ members, rated 5.0 from 15 reviews. Premium is $44 a month on our Skool plans page. VIP is $199 a month. We set that price ourselves, and it is not listed on the public plans page.
PPC Launchpad is free, and the same team runs PPC Copilot as the paid room. Lots of free rooms work that way, ours included. That is fine, as long as you can see it before you join.
How Skool Earns From Paid Rooms
Skool earns when members pay. It bills the group owner, not you. On 9 October 2026 Skool had two plans for owners. On the Hobby plan, Skool kept 10% plus 30 cents of every member payment. On the Pro plan, it kept 2.9% plus 30 cents on payments up to $899, and 3.9% plus 30 cents on bigger ones.
In June 2026 Skool started Growth Boost. Owners switch it on, and Skool runs ads that send new members to their group. Several owners wrote on Skool that paid groups go to the front of the line for that traffic. Skool has not said so on its help pages, and it does not publish how it ranks groups.
Discovery is Skool's own directory of groups. A paid room in an ad, or high up in Discovery, is a room that found you. It does not tell you how good the answers are.
When Paying Is Worth It
Stay free while you are still learning the basics or spending a few hundred a month on ads. At that budget, a $120 to $249 room eats money that should go into tests.
Pay when you can say yes to all three. You spend real money on ads every month. You have one clear problem the free room did not solve, like a Merchant Center suspension or Performance Max spending without sales. And the paid tier says in writing who answers, how fast, and whether anyone looks inside your own account. PPC Copilot's yearly plan, for example, lists a private 1-on-1 account review.
Read the free feed for a week before you pay anywhere. Member count shows who joined once. Posts show who stayed. From 25 September to 8 October we checked the two Skool groups with public posts. In ours, members started 33 posts and 28 had at least one comment. That count can include the poster's own follow-up, so it shows the room is alive, not that every question got answered. PPC Launchpad had no new posts in that window. A pinned post there says the live talk moved to the paid Copilot room. Most other groups are private, so you can only check from inside.
Our Room and Our Motive
ZenoX is a Google Ads agency. We run ads for 300+ stores on our current roster. The eCom Lab exists because some members later hire us. The paid tiers are optional, and VIP is free for people who use Scaley AI, our Google Ads software.
Want to learn it yourself? Start in the free eCom Lab and stay free as long as it helps. Spending at least €10K a month on ads and want someone to run it for you? That is what our Google Ads agency does. Below that line, we send people to the free room first.
